What is Panchang, and why does it matter?
The Panchang (literally “five limbs”) is the traditional Hindu almanac used to read the quality of a day. Its five parts — tithi (lunar day), vara (weekday), nakshatra (moon’s constellation), yoga and karana — are calculated from the exact positions of the Sun and Moon, so the panchang changes every day and shifts slightly by city. People consult it to know the day’s tithi, choose an auspicious muhurat for important work, and identify vrat and festival days.
Because sunrise differs by city, the muhurat windows on this page are computed specifically for Mumbai.
