How the transit positions are calculated

Gochar (transit) simply means where the planets are in the sky at a given moment. This tool computes the real sidereal (Lahiri) longitude of each of the nine grahas for the date and UTC time you choose, from a live ephemeris, and shows the sign, degree and whether each is retrograde. It also draws a South-Indian transit chart with the Moon's current sign marked as a Chandra-lagna reference. These are astronomical positions — the actual sky — not a prediction.

Frequently asked questions

What is gochar (transit)?
Gochar is the current movement of the planets through the zodiac, as opposed to their fixed positions in your birth chart. Transit astrology looks at where the planets are now relative to a chart.
Why are the positions in UTC?
Planetary positions are computed against a universal time so they are unambiguous worldwide. Enter the UTC time, or leave it blank to use the current moment.
Why are Rahu and Ketu always retrograde?
Rahu and Ketu are the Moon's nodes — mathematical points that move backward through the zodiac by convention, so they are always shown as retrograde.
Are these Vedic (sidereal) positions?
Yes. The positions use the sidereal (Lahiri) zodiac used in Vedic astrology, which tracks the actual constellations. They will differ from tropical (Western) positions by the ayanamsa.
Is this a prediction?
No. These are real astronomical positions — the actual location of each planet in the sky. They are shown for reference, not as a prediction of events.
