Mulank Calculator

Your Mulank (also called Moolank or psychic number) is the single root digit of your day of birth — a core number in Vedic numerology said to reflect your basic nature. Enter your date of birth to find your Mulank and your Bhagyank (destiny number), with the ruling planet and meaning of each.

What is Mulank (Moolank)?

Mulank — also spelled Moolank, and sometimes called the Driving Number or Psychic Number — is the single digit 1-9 derived from the day of the month you were born, with nothing else needed: no month, no year, no name. It is the most immediate number in Vedic (Indian) numerology, since it takes only the day of birth, and it is traditionally said to shape your natural instincts, first reactions and outward personality — the way you tend to move through the world day to day.

Mulank is distinct from the Bhagyank (Destiny Number), which is drawn from the full date of birth and is read as a deeper life direction rather than a surface style. The calculator above works out both numbers together, since they are usually read side by side.

How to calculate your Mulank — step by step

  1. Take the day of the month you were born. Only the day matters here — ignore the month and year entirely.
  2. If it’s already a single digit (1-9), that is your Mulank. Someone born on the 7th has Mulank 7.
  3. If it’s a two-digit day, add the digits together. Someone born on the 23rd adds 2 + 3 = 5.
  4. Keep reducing until you reach a single digit. A day like the 29th becomes 2 + 9 = 11, then 1 + 1 = 2. Unlike Western (Pythagorean) numerology, Vedic numerology always reduces all the way down — it does not keep “master numbers” like 11 or 22 unreduced.
  5. Read the ruling planet. Each Mulank 1-9 is linked to a classical planet (see below), which colours how the number is traditionally interpreted. The calculator above works this out instantly from your date of birth, alongside your Bhagyank.

Mulank 1-9 and their ruling planets

These are broad, traditional associations meant for reflection — not a fixed verdict on personality. A full numerology reading weighs the Mulank alongside the Bhagyank and other factors together, rather than reading any single digit in isolation.

Mulank vs Bhagyank — what's the difference?

Both numbers come from your date of birth, but they measure different things. Mulank (from the day alone) is read as your surface personality and instinctive style — how you come across and react in the moment. Bhagyank (from the full date, added and reduced) is read as your deeper life direction. When the two numbers are the same, or fall into a traditionally “friendly” pair, that alignment is described as smoother; when they differ more sharply, it is read as a person whose outer style and inner direction pull in noticeably different ways — not a conflict to fear, simply two layers of the same profile.

How your Mulank is calculated

Your Mulank is the day of your birth reduced to a single digit from 1 to 9 — for example, someone born on the 15th has a Mulank of 6 (1 + 5). Your Bhagyank adds every digit of your full date of birth and reduces it the same way. Vedic numerology always works on the root digits 1 to 9, so master numbers are reduced further. Each number is linked to a ruling planet that colours its meaning.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Mulank (Moolank)?
Your Mulank, also called the Moolank or psychic number, is the single-digit reduction of your day of birth. In Vedic numerology it is read as a pointer to your basic nature and instincts — a lens for reflection, not a fixed rule.
What is the difference between Mulank and Bhagyank?
Your Mulank comes from just the day of birth, while your Bhagyank (destiny number) reduces your entire date of birth. The Mulank is said to describe your inner nature and the Bhagyank the broader path of your life.
How do I calculate my Mulank by hand?
Take the day of the month you were born and add its digits until you reach a single digit from 1 to 9. For example, the 23rd becomes 2 + 3 = 5, so the Mulank is 5. The 29th becomes 2 + 9 = 11, then 1 + 1 = 2.
Which planet rules my Mulank?
Each Mulank is linked to a ruling planet — 1 the Sun, 2 the Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Rahu, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Ketu, 8 Saturn and 9 Mars. The planet's nature colours the traditional meaning of the number.
Can my Mulank predict my future?
No. Mulank describes traditional personality tendencies and is best used as a tool for self-reflection, not as a prediction of events or a fixed verdict about who you are.
