Kuber Mantra

Kuber, the deity of the Kuber Mantra

Kuber is the treasurer of the gods and the guardian of the north — held in Jyotish and in Puranic tradition to preside over wealth, treasure and the resources tradition calls dhana-dhanya, wealth and grain together. Mantras addressed to him are chanted on Dhanteras above all, at Diwali alongside Lakshmi, and by anyone seeking stability in finances rather than a windfall. As with the other deity mantras here, there is no single one — the family below serves different occasions.

The 4 Kuber Mantras

"Kuber Mantra" is not a single verse. These are the forms in traditional use, each with its own purpose and count.

FormOpeningCount
108 daily
108, or on Dhanteras
Kuber Gayatri Mantra 108
Kuber Dhyana Shloka —

Kuber Moola Mantra

Om Śrīṁ Kuberāya Namaḥ

"Śrīṁ" is the seed syllable of prosperity, and the rest is a salutation by name. This is the one usually given to someone beginning the practice, and the one most comfortably kept as a daily round.

Count: 108 daily

Kuber Dhana Mantra

Om Yakṣāya Kuberāya Vaiśravaṇāya Dhanadhānyādhipataye Dhanadhānyasamṛddhiṁ Me Dehi Dāpaya Svāhā

The longer, more formal mantra tradition keeps for wealth specifically. It names him as lord of the yakshas, Kuber, son of Vishrava, and overlord of wealth and grain, then directly asks that he give and grant abundance in both — closing on svāhā, the offering-syllable.

Count: 108, or on Dhanteras

Kuber Gayatri Mantra

Om Yakṣarājāya Vidmahe Vaiśravaṇāya Dhīmahi, Tanno Kuberaḥ Prachodayāt.

Built on the Gayatri metre. It names him Yaksharaja, "king of the yakshas", and Vaishravana, son of the sage Vishrava, then asks that Kuber direct the intellect.

Count: 108

Kuber Dhyana Shloka

Dhanādhyakṣāya Devāya Narayānopaveśine, Namaste Rājarājāya Kuberāya Mahātmane.

A dhyana verse held before worship, to bring his form to mind. It salutes him as overseer of wealth, seated upon his vehicle, and as Rajaraja, "king of kings" — a royal title applied here to a sovereign of treasure rather than of territory.

When and how to chant

Day: No fixed weekday in most sources — Dhanteras (Kartik Krishna Trayodashi) is the year's principal occasion

  • Evening is the time usually kept, and Dhanteras — two days before Diwali — the year's principal occasion.
  • Face north, the direction tradition assigns him as a dikpala (guardian of a direction). A yellow or saffron cloth and a lamp of ghee are customary.
  • A mala of any kind is acceptable; count in rounds of 108.
  • New utensils, silver or gold, and offerings alongside Lakshmi and Ganesh are commonly kept on Dhanteras, since the three are worshipped together.

What tradition holds

Kuber is approached for financial stability and the safekeeping of wealth already earned, rather than for a windfall — tradition frames him as a treasurer and guardian more than a granter of sudden riches, which is why he is worshipped alongside Lakshmi rather than instead of her. These are the reasons tradition gives for keeping these mantras; they are not claims about outcomes, and nothing here is a substitute for sound financial decisions.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Dhan Kuber Lakshmi mantra?

Several forms are chanted together on Dhanteras and Diwali. For Kuber specifically, the longer Dhana Mantra — Om Yakṣāya Kuberāya Vaiśravaṇāya Dhanadhānyādhipataye Dhanadhānyasamṛddhiṁ Me Dehi Dāpaya Svāhā — is the one most kept for wealth. The moola, gayatri and dhyana forms are set out above as well.

How many times should the Kuber mantra be chanted?

One full round of 108 is the common prescription, same as the other deity mantras in this cluster. The longer Dhana Mantra is often kept specifically for Dhanteras rather than a daily round.

How can Kuber Dev be pleased?

Facing north in the evening, with a yellow or saffron cloth, a ghee lamp, and the mantras above. Dhanteras — two days before Diwali — is the occasion most kept, alongside worship of Lakshmi and Ganesh.

What is the tantra mantra of Kuber?

The longer Dhana Mantra above, ending in svāhā, is the more tantra-adjacent of the forms given here. Formal tantric sadhana for Kuber beyond this is a specialist practice this page does not go into.
