Navgrah Mantra

This page exists because "navgrah mantra" is searched as its own thing — a single place that gives all nine beej mantras and their traditional repetition counts together, rather than the single-graha pages this cluster otherwise builds. Each graha below has its own full page with its moola, gayatri and stotra forms as well; this page is the index and the one most people actually want when a specific affliction is not yet known.

When and how to chant
Day: No single day — each graha below keeps its own, set out on its full page
- All nine are traditionally chanted together during Navagraha Shanti — a ceremony taken up at Griha Pravesh, before a major undertaking, or where a chart shows several grahas afflicted at once, rather than one in isolation.
- Where only one graha is actually afflicted, tradition favours chanting that graha's mantra alone over all nine — see the full page for the specific graha involved.
- The jaap sankhya figures above are the formal counts some traditions prescribe for a complete practice; 108 daily is the common substitute for an ongoing routine.
- A Navagraha Shanti is usually priest-led, since coordinating nine separate practices correctly is the point of having one.
What tradition holds
Navagraha Shanti is kept where a chart shows multiple afflicted grahas at once, or as a general strengthening before a significant life event — a wedding, a new home, a new venture — rather than for one specific problem, which is better addressed by that graha's own mantra alone. These are the reasons tradition gives for keeping all nine together; they are not claims about outcomes, and a proper chart reading is what actually tells you which graha, if any, needs the attention.

Frequently asked questions
What are the mantras of the 9 planets?
Each graha has its own beej mantra, set out above with the traditional jaap sankhya for each — Surya through Ketu. All but Chandra have their own full page in this section with moola, gayatri and stotra forms as well.
What is the navagraha peedahara stotra?
A stotra addressed to all nine grahas together, asking relief from the affliction (peeda) each can cause — distinct from the nine individual beej mantras above, which this page does not reproduce in full.
What are the 9 grains of the Navagraha?
A separate tradition from the mantras on this page, pairing each graha with a grain for remedies and donations. Some pairings are consistent across sources — wheat for Surya, rice for Chandra, green gram for Budh, gram for Brihaspati, sesame for Shani — but published lists disagree on the rest (Mangal, Shukra, Rahu and Ketu each get different grains depending on the source), so this page does not assert one fixed list for all nine.
What is the jaap sankhya for navagraha mantras?
The formal counts some traditions prescribe are set out above against each graha — from 7,000 for Surya to 23,000 for Shani. A daily round of 108 is the common substitute for ongoing practice rather than a one-time formal count.
