Shukra Dev Mantra
Shukra is the graha of love, beauty, art and material comfort — Venus in the Western scheme, and in the Puranas identified with Shukracharya, preceptor of the Daityas and keeper of the Sanjivani vidya, which tradition holds could revive the dead. Mantras addressed to him are chanted for marriage and relationships, for artistic and creative work, and for the comforts tradition groups together as bhoga. As with the other graha mantras in this section, there is no single one — the family below serves different occasions.
The 4 Shukra Dev Mantras
"Shukra Dev Mantra" is not a single verse. These are the forms in traditional use, each with its own purpose and count.
| Form | Opening | Count |
|---|---|---|
| Shukra Beej Mantra | ॐ द्रां द्रीं द्रौं सः शुक्राय नमः | 108 daily, 5 rounds on a Friday for a fuller practice |
| Shukra Puja Mantra |
| Shukra Gayatri Mantra | | 108 |
Shukra Beej Mantra
Om Drāṁ Drīṁ Drauṁ Saḥ Śukrāya Namaḥ
The most widely used form, and the one nearly every chanting recording online is built around. Drāṁ, drīṁ and drauṁ carry no dictionary sense of their own — in the tantric scheme they are sound-seeds tuned to the graha — and the mantra closes as a plain salutation to Shukra by name.
Count: 108 daily, 5 rounds on a Friday for a fuller practice
Shukra Saamanya Mantra
Om Śuṁ Śukrāya Namaḥ
The root form, and the shortest. "Śuṁ" is Shukra's own seed syllable; the rest is a bare salutation by name. This is the one usually given to someone beginning the practice.
Count: 108 daily
Shukra Puja Mantra
Om Hrīṁ Śrīṁ Śukrāya Namaḥ
Used at the point of worship rather than for extended counting. Hrīṁ and śrīṁ are seed syllables invoking auspiciousness and prosperity, which is why this form is offered at the image rather than repeated through the day on a mala.
Shukra Gayatri Mantra
Om Bhṛguṣutāya Vidmahe Divyadehāya Dhīmahi, Tanno Śukraḥ Prachodayāt.
Built on the Gayatri metre, as each graha has one of its own. It names him as Bhriguṣuta — son of the sage Bhrigu, the lineage tradition gives him — and of radiant form, then asks that Shukra direct the intellect. Published collections do not agree on the middle epithet; some give "bearing a bow" or "silver-hued" in its place. The version above is the one repeated most often.
Count: 108
When and how to chant
Day: Friday
- Friday is the day associated with Shukra; morning after sunrise or at sunset are the times usually chosen.
- Bathe first and wear white or light-coloured clothing. Facing south-east is considered best for him.
- A ghee lamp and incense are offered — Shukra's offerings run to comfort rather than the austerity kept for Shani.
- A sphatik (crystal) mala or white sandalwood mala is traditional. Count in rounds of 108, five rounds on a Friday for a fuller practice.
- White sweets, curd, rice or white flowers are the usual offerings.
What tradition holds
These mantras are traditionally taken up for marriage and relationship matters, for artistic or creative work, and for what tradition calls bhoga — comfort, luxury, the pleasures of the senses — since Shukra is held to govern all three. They are also chanted through Shukra Mahadasha and Antardasha, and by anyone seeking steadiness in a partnership. Tradition frames a well-placed Shukra as charm and harmony, and an afflicted one as excess or discord in relationships; these are the reasons the practice gives, not claims about outcomes.
Is Shukra actually placed against you?
A mantra is chosen for a placement, not for a planet in the abstract. Whether Shukra is running your Mahadasha, exalted, debilitated, or none of these depends on your birth date, time and place — which is a calculation, not a guess.

The most widely chanted is the beej mantra, Om Drāṁ Drīṁ Drauṁ Saḥ Śukrāya Namaḥ, which nearly every chanting recording online is built around. The puja and gayatri forms are set out above, each with its Devanagari, transliteration and sense.
How should the Shukra Beej Mantra be chanted 108 times?
Bathe first, sit facing south-east with a ghee lamp lit, and count Om Drāṁ Drīṁ Drauṁ Saḥ Śukrāya Namaḥ on a sphatik (crystal) or white sandalwood mala through one full round of 108 beads. Friday is the day usually chosen, and five such rounds make the fuller practice.
What are the benefits of Om Draam Dreem Draum Sah Shukraya Namah?

How can Shukra Dev be pleased?
Through the mantras above, chanted on a Friday in white or light clothing with a ghee lamp and white flowers, and through the donations tradition associates with him — white sweets, curd, rice or white clothing given on a Friday.
